Descriptions of Speech Events 

The Speech tournaments that the Tri-County Forensics League (TCFL) sponsors each season includes three distinct categories for competition: Interpretation of Literature, Original Competition and Spontaneous events. Each has different rules and competitive norms that are described in further detail on our handouts.

Examples of these categories are:

• Interpretation of Literature: Humorous, Dramatic and Duo, etc.

• Original Competition: Informative, Oratory (OO), Advocacy (OA), Prose and Poetry (OPP), etc.

• Spontaneous: Extemporaneous (National and International) and Impromptu Speaking

The League also offers the following supplemental events: Spontaneous Argumentation (SpAr) and Duo Improvisation that are not State-level competitive events.
